Excellent album for its day. MJ definitely knew how to keep reinventing the pop sound, every album slightly different in feel and sound. His second best after Thriller of course IMO.

As a side note, I knew a ‘Dirty Diana’ at the time this album came out but that’s a story for another forum.

An above average MJ album that’s sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Personally I’d say this is my 3rd favourite MJ album with off the wall 1st, thriller 2nd and bad 3rd.

Everything and anything, this guy touched, became priceless.
I've been watching some of his concerts and here are some of my observations:
You just can't seem to take your eyes off of him when in concert.
Every woman, crying, in the crowd is truly in love with him.
He's the ultimate entertainer.

On this album, smooth criminal is absolutely incredible. On YouTube I watched a talent show whereby a 10 yr old kid duplicated every move MJ made. It was a joy to watch, and the crowd was dancing and so enthusiastic.

It's always sad to see a great one go.

My 2nd forum post on this site was when this also was album of the day back in 2017. Glad it's only dropped like 20 spots.

Yeah I'm a little surprised it's all the way in the 400s, great album

Hearing this little effeminate guy who goes maybe a buck thirty soaking wet sing "I'm Bad" is comical.

Very much the sound of my 80s early childhood. What impresses me most about this album now is how every song sounds like it would make a good pop single (and a lot of them were). Just good friends and Smooth Criminal are particularly good.

Overall though, I just find it a little too 80s MOR pop these days (with a dated 80s production) -even though it's all done very well. This album doesn't quite have the killer grooves that make Off the Wall, Thriller and even Dangerous still sound fresh and addictive today.
