It's tournament time again! The rules are mostly the same as last year, with a tweak to keep the listening manageable and prevent me from nominating my 3+ hour AOTY.
1. A nomination can be any 2020 BEA-qualifying release that consists mostly of music released for the first time in 2020, is widely legally available for free online, and is no longer than the maximum length of a single-disc album (80 minutes or less). I strongly encourage you to nominate your favorite release that meets these criteria.
2. Seeding is by BEA rank. The bracket is randomized, except for play-ins, which narrow the tournament to 32 albums if necessary by matching the lowest seeds.
3. Closing times for each round are announced in advance. In the event of ties, the tiebreaker is rating, then trimmed mean, then mean. The final round and third place match use 24-hour extensions instead of a tiebreaker.
4. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers, but also to the biggest rank gainers, so add discoveries you like to your charts before the tournament is over.
Charmed is a banger of an album. Though this would be a challenge of what to pick since 2020 for all of us allowed us to listen to more albums, got several albums that I could throw for the tournament.

I really wish that album was just like... the 6 or 7 best cuts. Gave it a listen once, dug the gist, but I only go back to my 2-3 favs off of it. There's a diminishing value of return as it spins on, even as soon as the hour mark. Still, well worth a listen in small doses.
Anyway, swooping in with a big one. As fun as it would be to toss an obscure whoknowswhat into the mix, I'm going withโ
Had an all nighter at friend's place some months ago and we managed to listen to 8 hours of DJ Sabrina on autoplay, starting with Charmed. Fun times.
Aaaanyway there's a dozen of great picks from the top of my chart, but I'll just go with my favourite Croatian album of the last year (probably, Nemanja's Cosmic Disco was excellent as well). Been listening to this one a lot lately, so it's an obvious pick. Dialect from island Braฤ is barely understandable to me and I've enjoyed the album a lot despite that, hopefully others will too. Not too long either, a perfect 39 minute length. Probably won't get past the first round but who cares.
Now, while this isn't my absolute favorite album of 2020, hello Sawayama, this is one of those albums that I just want more people to listen to. As well as being one of those albums that you wouldn't expect where it goes from beginning to end.
