Pavement go pop, and produce a series of (seemingly) effortlessly catchy, bright, gently rambling indie rock anthems. They sure don’t sound like The Fall anymore. Even taking into account the crunchy, post-R.E.M. (note: isn’t everything?), verse-chorus-verse power-pop of Brighten the Corners, this remains their most accessible LP. It’s at turns playful and (accidentally?) poignant, and it folds influences as disparate (and yet as obvious) as The Grateful Dead, Dave Brubeck, and X into its orbit - to create a truly American masterpiece. I prefer Wowee Zowee.

Definitely one of the best albums of the 90s. Not one less-than-great song on here. My favorites are Cut Your Hair, Range Life and Hit The Plane Down.

Also want to point out that ‘Range Life’ and ‘Gold Soundz’ are as perfect as pop songs can be. To write one could be a happy accident; to birth both, genius. Everything else here is merely fantastic.
