there's a fair few Radiohead songs that feel vaguely post-rocky, and Bending Hectic feels like a really tight distillation and extension of Greenwood & co working within that mode. (This is actually my first time listening to this project, and I'm given to understand that much of it is kind of in this vein). Anyway cool stuff
Doves though is one of the most stunningly beautiful pieces of music I've heard over the past decade plus, could easily take this tournament as well as basically any other.
I got nothing. What do you even write about this. Music exists for this kind of creation _________________ A Variety of Artists
Probably the best pairing so far. Doves was on my long shortlist for nominations. Not sure why it's a bonus track and wasn't chosen as a closer for We Buy Diabetic Test Strips, sounds like a masterful closing track. Bending Hectic is maaaaybe the best Smile track? IDK. There was a time when the lack of Yorke projects made me question if he'll ever release another truly great album, with or without Radiohead. Now we have 3 very solid The Smile albums and I'm content. Anyway, Doves gets my vote. _________________ Overall chart Fake overall chart
i'm kind of mixed on bending hectic. on the one hand, it's very clever, and it's quite interesting, but it doesn't really move me the way this armand hammer track, which is new to me, moves me. i feel like bending hectic gets a bit carried away driving through the mountain passes. i have to listen to doves a few more times to get a better feel for it, but i'm leaning that way at the moment. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.
Wow, I missed Doves last year, but that was incredible. I'd never listened to any of The Smile either, and it is no slouch, I wouldn't cry foul if it came away the victor in this matchup. But Doves is huge! Maybe the best I've heard from the duo?? Hard to say. Thank you KitchenSink for bringing this to my attention!! _________________ endaural hour podcast

yeah I feel similarly. on streaming it's been updated such that Doves is the last track, but they also removed Junglepussy's verses, or rather I think she asked them to be removed because people were clowning on her for some reason which sucks. I'd love like a physical release that includes both Doves as the closer and doesn't remove Junglepussy's verses but seems unlikely to happen
