After this months journey into
Sounds Of Silence (1966) by Simon & Garfunkel
My discussion group has chosen
Revolver (1966) by The Beatles
as it's album to discuss in October.
I'll put my hand up straight away and confess that I'm not a huge Beatles fan but going in with an open mind. I feel that I'm pretty familiar with the album but I thought that about Sounds of Silence and, with repeated listens over a short space of time, I found myself hearing stuff that I had missed all these years. maybe the same will happen with Revolver,
Any thoughts on the album would be appreciated

Also the not the biggest Beatles fan, but enjoy some of their songs. Not heard Revolver in a while, so I'll be giving this a spin today. No denying there are some classic songs on this album just browsing the track list (Tomorrow Never Knows one of my favs of theirs).

Got to say, amazing album. Had forgotten how good some of the tracks were! Here, There and Everywhere, Good Day Sunshine, Eleanor Rigby and the Indian instrumentation running through parts of the album (Love You To an interesting track with the tabla). Definitely worthy of a re-listen, so thank you.

Thanks for participating in the thread albummaster and sharing your take on the album. I'm heading out tomorrow and going to listen whilst on the train. Like you, i haven't listened to Revolver in a very long time and your comments have been really helpful.
I'll relay my thoughts back after a couple of listens.

II'm both like you; not a devoted Beatles fan, since II do not seem to enjoy listening to most of their critically-acclaimed work, since their later work since 1967 is less melodic for me, despite the song's production becoming greater, and II also haven't really listened to the rest of their less critically-acclaimed work,
But "Revolver" is something like my 91st favorite album of all time right now, and it still sounds great after so many years.
II had a period when it had been a long while since the last time II listened to it, and when II listened to it again, it still sounded great!
II remember the very first time II listened to "Revolver" and thought it was underwheling in comparison with "Sgt. Pepper" and "Abbey Road", but now II think "Revolver" is their best album ever, while "Sgt. Pepper" and "Abbey Road" haven't aged well for me.
II've never understood why users think "Yellow Submarine" is a weak song, it has a nice rhythm and production, while "Doctor Robert"'s instruments sound kinda "dry" and lifeless in comparison with the rest of the songs on the album and their vocal melody everytime they say: "Doctor Robert" doesn't fit the rhythm of the instrumental composition.
"Tomorrow Never Knows" is also my fav of the Beatles too, AM The bass and the drums sound amazing, and all the recording techniques used in this song are a huge bonus for shocking you how ahead of its time this song sounds and how a band like the Beatles who you've known as an old cheery pop rock band could make something amazing and this fresh-sounding like this song.
II remember at the very first II listened to "Revolver" after listening to so many songs on the album and when track 13 ended, II wondered how is the last track is going to sound, and then "BOOM" . This song is still so shocking ever since!
"Rubber Soul" is my 2nd favourite from the Beatles. Their melodic Elvis bluesy-influenced era was amazing.
No matter how much music II've listened to by the millions of artists which are not the Beatles, The Beatles still seem to have some very fine quality of music like no other artist ever, which can prove how good they were at the time and still having devoted fans even today.
Again, like both of you, II've had another period of time which II haven't listened to this album, since II've listened to it so many times already, so thanks to this thread II've decided to listen to it once again, so II'm listening to it as II type this comment and this album still sounds really good!

Thanks for taking part II. Some great insight here and really appreciate you taking the time to do this. These are the sort of discussions we need to develop more of on the site and thanks again for participating. Going to give my own thoughts soon after a couple of listens as it’s been a while since I’ve heard the album.

You're welcome Thank you for reading and for submitting this topic.
Seems like the user activity on BEA is lower than ever, so there's less engagement on the forums and even and probably every section in general e.g. less track ratings for track entries etc.
II guess the solution for now is that we, the remaining users, should discuss what topics we would like to submit so we would participate in them as much as possible, so II hope our interests aren't too diverse, so users will comment on whatever topic someone submits.
"Revolver" has been critically-acclaimed almost everywhere on planet Earth, so hopefully II hope more users will comment in this topic, like how users commented when "Rubber Soul" was an AotD several days ago.
II hope you enjoy listening to "Revolver" and share your experience with us

I think that's spot on II. Engagement does seem to be down on what it was previously but I think that those who are engaging are doing so with great knowledge of the subject, we just need more people to get into a topic. You, me and the other regular contributors just need to keep our engagement up and hopefully that will drive others to get involved

Summer lull is fairly normal around here (unfortunately), hopefully things should pick up again as we begin countdown towards end of year.
