Post subject: Bands and singers with a knack for words
I love words/wordplay and would like to check out more bands and singers who are proper word smiths. I love how you can be entertained just by reading a Morrissey song title for example.
I find Something For Kate's Paul Dempsey to be a great lyricist.
Song titles
"All the Things That Aren't Good About Scientology"
"One Quarter of One Hour" – 14:49
"You Can't Please Everybody, Rockwell"
"Soundczech"
"Anarchitect"
"The Green Line Is Us, the Red Line Is Them"
"Sleep Is Worth the Wait"
"Transparanoia"
"Belief = Function = Belief"
"Feeding the Birds and Hoping for Something in Return"
from 'Monsters':
I was hiding away under water
Waiting for distance and buying some time
Trying to be two hundred thousand years younger
So i could excuse myself from humankind
'cause i don't want to be a container
Or a bastard with a ten page disclaimer
But these monsters spin me around
Get me down, just try and shut me out
The Decemberists. Those guys definitely like difficult words. Best lyricists of the last decade for me!
Among five score pachyderm
each canopied and passengered
sit the duke and the duchess' luscious young girls
within sight of the baroness
seething spite for this lithe largesse
by her side sits the baron
her barrenness barbs her
and we'll all come praise the infanta
and we'll all come praise the infanta
