Prefer Arthur, but this is a close second.

Very good for a while, but really falls off around track 11. Still, the highlights are good enough to make this a worthwhile listen.

66-69 is a faultless era for The Kinks, with Lola vs Powerman just falling short of genius afterwards. Anyway, Village Green is one in a series of 4 immaculate albums. Melody Dreamland + splendid lyrics.
Don't agree at all with swedenman, I don't see any loss of momentum in here, and "Wicked Annabella" and "People Take Pictures..." are glorious moments.

Seriously? I think the album closes in a perfect way. The last song is one of my favorite from the album and if all times, and Monica is awesome as well. I guess that's why I live the Kinks so much, eh.
I slightly prefer Face To Face and Something Else, but this is still a little better than Arthur (which is fantastic nonetheless, don't get me wrong).
The highlights here are the opener, Village Green and the closer IMO, although there isn't any really weak track, just great ones (compared to fantastic ones). Overall it's a very consistent record, as are most of the Kinks'.

I too think the album ends in splendid fashion, People Take Pictures of Each Other is brilliant. The rest of the album is pretty brilliant as well, though I would say Last of the Steam-Powered Trains is merely good. The bonus tracks on later editions are often great and worth a listen or ten.
