I added an album by a Serbian artist and when I chose the country for the album I had to choose Serbia and Montenegro. Just suggesting that maybe we should do a quick update of the countries since Serbia and Montenegro ceased to exist in 2006. Serbia and Montenegro are now separate.

Thanks for reporting. I've just updated the country list so that Serbia & Montenegro are now separate (also kept the joint country in the list until I've migrated any bands across to the respective individual countries.).

Bumping this thread because I added an album by an artist from Palestine earlier, yet Palestine doesn't appear to be an option. I personally think Palestine should be added to the database as it's own state, but what do others think?

technically, I don't believe Palestine is considered a country. But I have no quarrel with it being added to the database considering its situation.

Agreed, Palestine isn't technically considered it's own independent country, yet I believe Palestine deserves to be in the database considering there are other places already in the database that aren't technically countries, such as the Pitcairn Islands, which has a reported population of under 100 and is just a British Overseas Territory.

If the Pitcairn Islands are added, then Palestine should also be added to the database.

I'm a very non-political person & I'm not sure how to to avoid turning this into a politics thread! Some previous debates on the country list: here and here. The key point in previous debates from a BEA perspective was where to stop, because once you add one maybe contentious entry, the flood gates open for all of the others, and then you end up with something less than useful & no clear boundaries.
Just reading a few other articles you get into all sorts of issues that don't make this a clear-cut issue. On the other hand, we do have the Vatican City listed on BEA (established as an independent state by the Lateran Treaty), which is a similar status to Palestine but it's globally recognised as an independent state, which Palestine isn't (for reasons that it's not my place to get into).

Thanks for clearing things up. I wouldn't be very political at all to be honest, so I'm not overly clear on the whole Palestine issue, though I know it's a debatable area. Just thought I'd throw the suggestion out there as the artist I added considers himself to be Palestinian.
