No Other by Gene Clark

In its first round match, No Other got 5 votes. Three responders voted "Liked both". Meet the Residents got 10 votes. But, No Other's 8 votes were enough to get it into the Wild Card Playoff, where it got the most votes, enough to move on to the second round. But, unlike the other wild card (Nico's The End), this one is moving on to the 3rd round, scraping Pretzel Logic off of its 1920's style shoes.

Zuckerzeit by Cluster

In round 1 it bested folk legend Leonard Cohen's New Skin for the Old Ceremony with three times the votes and three times the excitement. In round 2 it went against genre-mate Blackdance by Klaus Schulze, and prevailed 9-4.

Have a good weekend, enjoy the matches. Any suggestions about how to introduce the Quarter-finals are welcome.

No Other. One of the greatest albums ever made.

If there were awards in this tourney for best production and best sounds, I'd give them to Zuckerzeit in a second. Some of these "songs" are the equivalent of aural taffy such as Caramel, Caramba, & James. But, unlike Autobahn, Phaedra and even Blackdance, I don't feel it coheres as an album or that there's any special synergy betweeen the tracks. It just feels like twelve great sounds that could have almost randomly been queued up.

I'm still trying to decide whether No Other is a masterpiece or not. Without question, it winning these games would be the coolest story, especially since it would put the spotlight on Listmeister's arcane tourney design. Definitely added an unknown, quixotic element to this tourney which I loved. There was at least one matchup in the second round that had me longing for that "Neither" button. LOL.

Zuckerzeit was my least favorite krautrock entry in this tournament at the start and repeat listens haven't changed that.

The above pun attempts to say "Eat your vegetables. Sugartime is over." in what is probably really bad German.

Sorry.
