DBZ is right on this, although I think that just started this year because I don't remember that happening last year. I wonder if it has any effect on the 2015 ordering. It'll be interesting to see if any major changes happen when overall charts start counting on Jan 1, 2016. _________________ Overall - The 2010's - 2020

I relate more to D'Angelo's trepidation than Kendrick's bluster. Both are great records, though.

I really like Black Messiah a lot, but To Pimp A Butterfly was just an immediate masterpiece to me on first listen. _________________

TPAB has little to no replay value whilst Black Messiah has a ton of it
Vote to D'Angelo

I vote Black Messiah. For me, it's the more enjoyable listen. It's a groovy, funky, soulful listen with some very deep, insightful lyrics that really speak of the times we're living in. The Charade in particular is fantastic.
To Pimp A Butterfly is as close to a universal, objective masterpiece as a 2010s album can be. However, it's hard work to listen to. I feel like I need to have three Genius pages open and be taking notes to feel I'm really listening to the album and not simply letting the lyrics pass over me. Like trying to catch with your mouth all the water spraying from a fire-hose; a torrent of great music.
Perhaps it boils down to accessibility for me. _________________ Top 100 Greatest Music Albums

To Pimp a Butterfly, no question. I find more and more to love about it the more I listen to it. Black Messiah, on the other hand, never clicked with me. I like it, but ehhh. I'm curious to see what happens in five, ten, maybe fifteen or so years when we look back on these albums. Maybe the consensus will shift.
Also, yeah. To Pimp a Butterfly is low right now, but it's gonna shoot the hell up when 2016 rolls around. _________________ Inversion Verses
