I'm really quite disappointed by that Big Thief song - what feels like it could be a nod to big, open-hearted, anthemic 1990s alt. rock actually ends up being a repetitive chug whose only textural variety is provided by a guitar solo that significantly outstays its welcome. The lyrics contain some interesting imagery, but it doesn't really seem to be in service of anything, and the whole thing just feels like a drag.
That said, I'm not in love with this Grimes song by any means, but it does showcase her natural gift for being able to shove like four earworms into one song without it feeling forced. I'm not sure I appreciate the Eurotrance vibes, and overall it leans a little too heavily into sounds I generally find garish, but it's interesting enough to get my vote in this matchup. _________________ 2021 in full effect. If I've learned one thing during this tournament it's that I like Not a lot more than most. I'm fine with it losing here though since Flesh Without Blood is one of my 5 favorite songs left. _________________ And it's hard to be a human being. And it's harder as anything else.
