This Was by Jethro Tull
Fantastic. Just read up on how many fans consider this their best & I can see why. Killer blues rock.

It had Mick Abrahams working on it.

I guess its like Aqualung except with psychedelic portions and some gnarly Santana-esque guitar solos, neither of which are present on their other albums that I have heard so far (likely none) but elevate this album even above Aqualung.
Also Sossity You're a Woman" is a great minimalist song that kinda reminds me of Fleetwood Mac's great "Landslide" song.
For some reason I like it most when this band goes hard and edgy. I know they're aping Led Zeppelin a little bit but Zep doesn't do it half as well, sorry. Maybe Zep is just too much for me. Moderation is great in most things I find. I think the main thing though is that Tull is simply more varied. Indeed, that goes with being progressive rock/metal, which I love. That's why I think Dream Theater's the Astonishing is extremely progressive; it is so varied and is not like the three chord 90s punk stuff that doesn't do it for me (I don't know why some people like it, maybe they hate real music?).
This should be required listening for prog and Jethro Tull fans alike

Benefit pumped me up to listen to something new rather than Aqualung, which I have already heard, so I will next listen to Rush's first album. I know the flute can get quite annoying

RUSH is definitely a more typical quality debut album than Tull's. It doesn't blow you're socks off.
Its basically kind of like if Led Zeppelin was a better band which still isn't really up to my standards, Although Zep's Physical Graffiti is a far better album to me. Is it just me or does this sound a lot like Led Zeppelin? Maybe that's why they were struggling in the beginning, they didn't have a unique enough sound, and then when they tried something new, a rock opera (albeit a short one) on 2112 everything took off.
The highlight of the album is definitely the relaxing long "progressive" song "Here Again", which sounds the least like Zep, although I do know sometimes Zep plays blues...
Also "Before and After" is incredibly trite and cheesy in the beginning although it does go back to the same old Zep stuff by the end
I HATE cheesy music, its so annoying and is the lowest of the low to me.
Its still an 85 though.

Also the lyrics are so bad they're offensive to my brain, they really needed Neil Peart.

I've decided the cheesiness wasn't so bad since at least its a little variety. Probably why I rated it 85...
