It's a toss up between Halcyon Digest, Microcastles, and Weird Era for me, but I would lean towards Halcyon Digest. Monomania is definitely their low point though. Halcyon Digest wins this match for me, by far.

Yes, I do. Although I'll admit I've listened to it way more than I have the rest of their discography (Monomania may be catching up). I've been planning on buying the rest of their albums and listening to them a lot more, but I think Halcyon Digest is a masterpiece and doubt i'll ever think any of the earlier ones are better.

Interesting. I first heard Deerhunter when my I found a used copy of Microcastle, a couple years ago, which I thought was stellar, which led me to check out Crytograms, which I absolutely fell in love with. Then Halcyon came out. I thought it had some amazing sons(Earthquake), but I really thought it was meh as a whole, a lot of the stylistic choices they took really annoyed me when listening to it, and I think it fell pretty darn flat, as compared to their earlier work. Then Monomania was released this year, and I really dug it. Its a pretty polarizing record, but it really captured the sound I always wanted them to try out.

So yea, Deerhunters amazing, but I don't really like Halcyon.

Logos > Anything Deerhunter have done (...and yeah I haven't heard Microcastle/Weird Era Cont).

Lonerism takes this one pretty easily for me. Not just for home pride but because I think the songs are better and more importantly as a whole I think Halcyon Digest is quite weak (though I love Earthquake, Helicopter and Fountain Stairs) whereas Lonerism works completely quite nicely.

I agree with MrFrogger, Deerhunter have done much better stuff. Lonerism is a lot more ambient, it has a much better vibe to it, and overall it just sounds a lot better than anything Deerhunter have ever done (Halcyon Digest in particular).

Vote for the right choice! Vote for the music! Vote for Lonerism!

I guess I've done my part as to being the propagandist, right?

Well just going by the songs you posted, you would make me vote the other way you intended.

Halcyon is the most diverse and ambitious Deerhunter album, a real journey from start to finish. I like Lonerism a lot, but there isn't an aspect in which it would beat Halcyon for me. They're both psych-rock revivals, but I feel Deerhunter do far more with this sound (I mean.. dat sax on Coronado for example).

I'm just gonna drop this here: I don't see much of a difference between what Tame Impala is doing and what Foxygen is doing so reflect on that (assuming you know I think Foxygen is the worst album I've heard this year thus far).

Agreed. They're both revisiting the poppy psychedelic 60s. I find Tame Impala a bit heavier though. My feelings about both bands are pretty similar, slightly favoring Tame Impala. But I don't think either is anything all that special. Maybe they'll develop into something better though. I guess Blonde Redhead and Yo La Tengo both essentially started as Sonic Youth cover bands, and they both blossomed.

I've been mulling it over for a while and I think I have to go with HD. I love Lonerism, but Deerhunter's discography is so strong to me. It's only my third favorite Deerhunter album and I prefer it.

Close race...come on Deerhunter fans, don't let them lose to Lame Impala.

See what I did there?

Just listen to this song loudly through headphones. Pretty great experience.
