Stevie Wonder has some cool bass sounds as well... I think he has both an electric bass and electric piano doing bass?

Indeed, he played that Jazz bass I showed earlier, but he would play with only the bridge pickup so it would be mostly the mids and very little lows. Phenomenal player.

Reggae was mentioned earlier and I just realized I like it's ugly cousin' Ska a little better especially after listening to this today:

Both genres have that booming warm bass.

thundercat is a stud. i got to see him live a while back, and he's definitely my top bassist now. the guy's a beast.

*edit: at this point, if thundercat isn't your favorite bassist of all time, i just feel sorry for you.

Mark Sandman of Morphine had this unique laid-back soft sliding bass playing style that I've always enjoyed. Plus Morphine was a band without a guitar, which made him stand out as the absolute driving force behind their music.

For those who are interested, this is a little playlist of my favourite Morphine tracks. Bomb the bass !

1:51 -2:15 in Nite Klub is the bass top of the mountain. And, speaking of big solo moments, 1:00 -1:11 in Maxwell Murder by Rancid is pretty sick.

The bari sax on Buena is some cool "bass" as well Smile. That track has always just been amazing to me. Thanks for sharing the list. I own Cure for Pain and liked listening to it a few times, but hadn't really gotten much further into them... I think this playlist might help me get more into them.

I had no idea that was bass... I guess he used a slide to get different sounds out of it... pretty damn cool.

He did, and it was a 2-string bass Smile
@seth, you may want to watch this interview with Sandman where he discusses a lot of technical aspects related to his bass playing.
