Vinyl? I'd rather listen to a heavily compressed mp3, thanks.

I do want to gather all my top 100 on vinyl sometime but currently only have 2 of them on vinyl (3 Feet High And Rising and If You're Feeling Sinister), I do have the majority of them on CD though. Only been gathering vinyl for a few months now that I have a job, money is the main issue, the majority of my cash is still being spent on uni, I try pick up some reasonably priced vinyl when I come across them.

Interestingly one of my top 100 I own on vinyl is Tigermilk, which I remember picking up ages ago when Jeepster repressed it (not the original though, which goes for loads).

I agree that money is a major issue - most vinyl I come across tends to go for £10-20 at least, although if you hunt enough you can pick up some classics for next to nowt (for example my copy of Entertainment! cost me the princely sum of £2. I've since found out it was a first pressing and worth 8-10 times that, at least if the prices on Discogs are to be believed...)

Totally agree with you on that. The thrill's in the chase...

Nice.

I think the best 'price' finds I've ever seen were Darklands, This Year's Model & John Barleycorn Must Die all in a dollar bin. This was before I bought my record player though Embarassed Brick wall

I don't have any vynil..
I usually buy CDs and that's already a lot considering some of them cost more than 20 € and considering I'm nothing but a student at the moment.
I buy one each month, more or less, also trying to buy those which cost less than 15 €. For the rest, I listen in digital format, trying to find something not too much compressed.
There's my dad's collection of vynils, though. It consists of mostly 70s and early 80s hard rock and progressive rock, but there's also 60s and 70s italian stuff (mostly my uncle's), some italian progressive rock, and some Dylan.
I'm happy with CDs anyway. Now that I have already much, I wouldn't start to buy vynils.

I STRONGLY suggest people start buying vinyl over CDs, if you don't already. CDs these days are primarily just digital download cards from which people rip music to their computer anyway. Every thing you can get from CD you can get from itunes. Vinyl records provide a listening experience unlike those other vehicles.

This, of course, is only my opinion. But my life is better because of vinyl.

I can only buy vinyl online. No record shops around here, and the closest ones have got a poor selection. I bought two records on my first visit to Asheville but this last visit I got just a shit ton of books and a pretty picture to put on my wall.

Let's see...Off the top of my head.
1. Visions by Grimes
2. Just Another Diamond Day by Vashti Bunyan
3. ---------
4. Cross Paths by The Motifs
5. Motion Sickness of Time Travel by Motion Sickness of Time Travel
6. ---------
7. The two Bikini Kill EPs that make up CD Version of the First Two Records
8. --------
9. --------
10. ------
11. I Could Live in Hope by Low
12. --------
13. Glimmer by Jacaszek
14. ---------
15. Fever Ray by Fever Ray
16. ---------
17. Souvlaki by Slowdive
19. ----------
20. ----------
21. ---------
22. Ys by Joanna Newsom

So, that's ten. There's no chance in hell I'm going to get a physical copy of kyooo. I don't even know if one exists. Same deal with Giles Corey. Songs. the Oblivion soundtrack.

I am just beginning to start up my vinyl collection, so I only have 7 of them that are in my overall chart, 6 of which my dad bought when he was young.

Damn, that's a crazy good price for Entertainment!, also in my top 100 but haven't stumbled upon it anywhere yet. Cork isn't the best place for picking up vinyl usually, there's very few places here and you're generally looking at €20+ for the majority of stuff, heck, even CD's are now about that price here...

16, though many of those albums are on my chart precisely because I bought them on vinyl and then fell in love. At the moment I'm more interested in purchasing my favourite albums from the past two years on vinyl, because my generation innit.

A lot of what I love hasn't been pressed on vinyl, but yeah, I'm up for completing as much as I can. I collect CDs and Vinyl, it just depends on what I'm feeling on the day of the purchase.

For what I have on my chart on vinyl:

Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
Television - Marquee Moon
The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes
Alice Coltrane - Journey In Satchidananda
My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
Cloud Nothings - Here And Nowhere Else
Jay-Z - The Black Album
J Dilla - Donuts
Perfume Genius - Put Your Back N 2 It
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue
Gang Starr - Step In The Arena
Jay-Z - The Blueprint
American Football - American Football
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
Sparklehorse - It's A Wonderful Life
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime

20, and probably like 40 (give or take a few) on CD

This is an interesting idea Jim! I'll update this post as I purchase more vinyl, etc.
