I remember when I first heard this on vinyl mid-2009. I had just listened to Joni Mitchell's Blue and hated it (which I still do to this day), and was talking to my dad about how much I hated it. He agreed with me that it sucked, but he's like "You know what's really beautiful that same year?", and I quickly remembered the high ranking of this album here, and I said "Tapestry?". And he said "Yeah, that is a really life-changing album."

Of course, when I finally put it on my turntable, I really was changed, and for a long time it was on my top 30 albums ever. I remember finding out six months later that it was my aunt's favorite album of all time (next to Jagged Little Pill and a Carpenters greatest hits comp; she had the mom-rock canon down to a science), and we spent a lot of time bonding over this. It has a lot more filler than I realized back then, but it's definitely something everyone should listen to.

My mother passed away in April of 2011. A couple months later I moved back home after breaking up with my girlfriend and took oveer her bedroom. Inside her closet was a small box of vinyl records that I had forgotten she had for over a decade. It was mostly stuff I wasn't that interested in. Alabama, George Strait, the Bee Gees... But I bought a cheap record player and listened to this for the first time and it touched my soul. It used to be in my top 30, although now it's in and out of my chart. I don't know why. It's damn near perfect.

To contrast Apperill's thoughts though, I didn't fall in love with Blue right off and preferred Tapestry for a bit. Now I'm on team Joni all the way. Sure, Carole's lyrics were touching, but the lyrics are among the simplest written on any classic album ever. Not that I hold anything against it. It's the perfect record for easy to comprehend love songs. But that's the thing
A 5 year old could identify with and fall in love with Tapestry. They could probably even come up with equally deep and touching lyrics. Joni is the female Bob Dylan and Blue is her Highway 61 Revisited.

Not generally my type of music, but this is definitely a beautiful album. So Far Away is one of the greatest laments in the history of popular music.
