My story on this album is, ehh... I took piano lessons when I was about 5-6 years old, but I gave up on it because I really hated the piano teacher my Mom had stuck me with. But a few years later this album came out, and despite my being more into proggy-rock and early British heavy metal by that time, Tapestry is what got me to start playing piano again. There were some other records that I wanted to teach myself the piano parts for too, especially Alice Cooper's "Beautiful Flyaway," a song about DDT poisoning, and Roxy Music's "Chance Meeting," which had almost nothing to do with DDT whatsoever. But "So Far Away" and "It's Too Late" were the songs I really wanted to figure out how to play, mostly because I thought it might work to impress girls. So I did, and of course, it didn't. And while I don't blame the girls I was trying to impress, or even girls in general, this is mostly why I eventually started learning guitar instead. Still, if it had worked, who knows how far I could have gone with it, once the synthpop/electronica thing got rolling in the early 80s? I could've been the American version of Gary Numan, except that I wouldn't have wanted to wear all that makeup, and my name isn't "Gary." Also, I wasn't especially fond of Margaret Thatcher.
Oh well.
