Looking for music before 90's to listen to for my chart is quite lacking from 50's-90's. I just don't want any classic rock recommendations for that is simply one of the reasons why I don't have much music before then. Take a look at my chart and recommend older albums that you would think I'd like. Pleaseeeee!!

Since you are considering After The Gold Rush for your chart, make sure you listen to Neil Young's Tonight's The Night. That's the Neil Young album with the most guts.

Also try Muddy Waters "The Folk Singer".

Recommending these mostly because we have quite a few common albums on our charts and I really like these. Mostly within the realm of rock but not the type of classic rock I think you're thinking of.

Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley

Cool psychedelic folk with a great singer.

I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight...a Thompson

Also mostly melancholy folk.

#1 Record by Big Star

Early power pop and one of the most underrated rock bands.

Radio City by Big Star

Big Star's better, more depressed album.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex

Fun glam rock.

Curtis by Curtis Mayfield

Probably the best R&B / Soul album ever.

I listened to Tonights The Night and it is arguably tied with After The Goldrush right now.

If you have always thought of the Rolling Stones as classic rock, that's not surprising, but check out Exile on Main Street. Instead of blues, Exile is rock that comes from roots/Americana. In other words, The Stones are doing much what The Band did. This is one of the most addictive albums ever made, but it can seem like a "meh" the first 10 times you hear it. My son (big time Radiohead fan) got to love this album because he heard it so many times in my car. For a preview, check out the track "Let It Loose".

Some people will never dig the Stones, but Exile is special.

Some stuff that may be of interest based on your tastes, I also second the aforementioned Tim Buckley, Curtis Mayfield and Richhard & Linda Thompson albums.

On The Beach by Neil Young

Veedon Fleece by Van Morrison

Yip/Jump Music by Daniel Johnston

This Nation's Saving Grace by The Fall

Rum, Sodomy, And The Lash by The Pogues

Crazy Rhythms by The Feelies

We have reasonably similar tastes so hit me up if you've any queries, happy listening!

I don't know how to separate so-called "classic rock" from indie whatchamightcallit.
My recommendations are in my various charts.
Enjoy your discoveries 8)

]You like Joy Division so check this group out:

1979–1983 by Bauhaus

Their individual albums are good too.

This one is good too, for an introduction to The Ramones:

Ramones Mania by Ramones

Punk rock in general can be a very rewarding genre, as can post-punk.

Finally the Neil Young mention:

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young And Crazy Horse

His slightly punk-y album which supposedly influenced Nirvana and the Grunge movement.
