Nothing
Seems to kill me
No matter how hard I try

Haunting lyric from the great Chris Cornell. Does it bother anyone else Down on the Upside is down at 1,912? It's similar to Superunknown. It doesn't live up to it (which very few albums do), but it's a pretty good album on its own right. My top tracks are Pretty Noose, Burden in My Hand, and Never the Machine Forever.

I haven't heard the rest of the album, but I love the singles. "Blow Up The Outside World" might be my favourite Soundgarden song.

Completely agree, vastly underrated both in Soundgarden's canon and overall. The singles are some of their best, and lesser known tracks such as Never The Machine Forever, Zero Chance, Tighter & Tighter, etc. display the continued excellent songwriting from one of the best bands of the 90's. I think a lot of people were initially turned off by the less heavy sound compared to former outings, but I like the more balanced approach of it and I think it's stood the test of time extremely well.

Soundgarden is one of those band I could never get into, even though I absolutely adore Cornell's voice. This sounds like a nice excuse to give them another listen.

I agree.

I prefer Cornell in Audioslave, but that's likely because I'm a Rage fan and not so much a Soundgarden fan.

Even if I'm not crazy about Audioslave - he fit well in the band's sound.

Interestingly, Soundgarden is the one Seattle band I could get into. Alice in Chains is hit or miss, I can generally pass on Pearl Jam, and I have no use for Nirvana whatsoever. Soundgarden has some real moments for me. Badmotorfinger is one of my all time faves.

But I seemed to lose interest in them after that. After (what I considered to be) the end to end greatness of Badmotorfinger, I found (so unlike the rest of the world) Superunknown to be relatively weak and uninteresting, so I pretty much abandoned the group.

Sounds like I may have to give this one another go.
