My absolute favourite case of this - "If I Were With Her Now" off Spiritualized's Lazer Guided Melodies being used for a late 90s UK TV ad for Toffee Crisp.

We also had Joanna Newsom's "This Side Of The Blue" being used to sell mobile phones.

someone used Modest Mouse's Gravity Rides Everything back before Isaac Brock's Float On was ever a thing. i'm lazy, so i'm not looking up who what where when why.

and Kishi Bashi wrote a terrible song about meat for some commercial. i'm not sure if that counts though, since it was a commissioned piece.
