Great album as I remember. Little overrated but what-fucking-ever.

I would've argued otherwise about 50 minutes ago, but this album certainly is a masterpiece. My first listens of this album left no mark whatsoever, but #3 got me. There's undeniable beauty and power in the lyrics, vocals, and music all throughout the album. I saw merit in it before, but I think I understand why it's so universal now. It's simply emotional, theatrical music wonderfully executed.

Now let's get to what I don't like about this album. While I can't find any major faults musically, if there were ever a time to call something pretentious, it would be while listening to this album. And I still can't get behind this being in the top 10 albums of all time. I mean, how this could possibly be placed above powerhouses such as TVU&N, LZ4, Highway 61, Pet Sounds, or Rubber Soul is truly beyond me.

So many things about this album are incredible, and even though Arcade Fire has gotten into the habit of putting out bad, bloated albums, I can always put this on and remind myself what made them so special.

Track picks
1. Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
4. Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
8. Haiti
9. Rebellion (Lies)
10. In The Backseat

Sounds like me when I first got into this. First time I heard the record I thought nothing special of it.

And now I would prefer to listen to Funeral over all those albums you listed (even though I like them all). Maybe that's why? Listenability? Not trying to speak against what you are saying, just saying I've thought the same thoughts.

Or not. Different tastes and all.

I've thought the same about OK Computer. It's a fine album and all, but is it really that much greater?

As of 4 hours later, it's not Laughing Those 3 are in a deadheat, which is insane considering how many points they have. Think I'd like it to go VU>Funeral>LZ, but it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, this is the album that did it for me. And I love it for that.
