Kids See Ghosts was better than I expected, but I'm sticking with my entry, the slightly metallic, often folky, Polish progressive wonder, Wasteland.

Kids See Ghost is not the worst hiphop album: it's a bit spacey and it's short which already merits extra points for an album of the genre.
The Riverside album was announced as progmetal in the genre of Dream Theater so normally music I keep away from as far as possible but finally it was not too bad. Some of the pieces are a bit eery and all of it together makes for a rather interesting piece of work.
Neither of the two will make it to my personal top charts but both of them are good in their genre but finally I chose for Riverside.

riverside has been making some of the better prog metal for over a decade by this point, this is a fine album, but so is the KSG one, i'll think hard on this one

Wasteland was pretty solid, Kids See Ghosts while overpraised somewhat still is the easy vote here

the skinny with riverside is they are the premier prog metal band in the alternative metal scene. they much like DSC have filled the void Tool left when they stopped making good albums and music in general. if tool ain't really your thing they will be a pass.
i think im voting for them because i like good alt prog metal over the kinda rap KSG do

Upon revisiting, my opinion is pretty much the same. Kids See Ghosts is good, but uneven in quality and ridiculously overrated. Not a top 100 album for the year, let alone #1. Will listen to Wasteland tomorrow. _________________ Add me on RYM

That's interesting, because I found this album to be significantly more interesting and enjoyable than Tool's more acclaimed work.
As to my vote, going with the flawed but enjoyable rendition of genres I'm a big fan of, instead of the very well-done rendition of genres I'm not. _________________ Add me on RYM

This is me ery day.
But then one likes what one likes and it's hard to break that mold/should it be broken at all? Sometimes I worried about ignorance and then other times I'm like, geez, I'm so glad I didn't waste that hour of my life.
Having said that, I voted for the prog album, even if prog usually isn't my cup of tea. It was WELL executed with way less circle jerk material and actually intrigued me, whereas Kids See Ghosts sounded a bit regurgitated and uninspiring.
And why I said what I said before is I love me some regurgitated uninspiring music as long as its my regurgitated uninspiring music...
