You’re far too precious. Al/Nat deserve to be here as much as Kacey, the 100% was not to insinuate one album was any more or less deserving, you just decided to take it that way. Hence the comment of mine you highlighted in bold. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing

That's cool that it wasn't what you meant. Not sure why this got personal. _________________ Add me on RYM

Generally prefer Kacey's widescreen, unabashedly polished, shimmering Laurel Canyon ruminations on contentment to the undoubtedly competent but ultimately conservative throwback offering it's up against, but I can see why those who aren't au fait with this sort of thing might find it interesting. Nice underdog story, too. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Yeah, I think the argument that the most popular albums are going to have a cakewalk with tournaments likethis is often specious, since there can be a been there, done that factor with an album like Kacey's while others like this Birchall hop can be a new, e,citing discovery that they're more likely to get into while deciding who to vote for, which can benefit the quote-on-quote underdog. Now I don't think any or at least most here are actually voting against Kacey because she's a popular favorite, but less are probably finding a need to revisit the album either. Now I set prefer Kacey, the Birchall album was quite good if nothing even to my unrefined reggae taste particularly new or mindblowing, but that doesn't mean it's success in the tournament is any less deserving nor is Kacey any less deserving because she's sold more records. Don't mind who the through... Though Birchall vs MGMT for a 2018 album tournament seems a bit regressive, even if yes evaluation of quality over current re!advance is most important.

It's not really a fair comparison as I just listened to Sounds Almighty for the first time whereas I've probably listened to Golden Hour more than any other record from last year.
What I liked about Sounds Almighty was the dub effects. I don't really know this kind of music but like the way these effects lightly decorated the album without overwhelming the flow. Overall I wasn't hooked on the first listen but I'd need to listen more to make my mind up.
Golden Hour just delivers on every front. I think the widescreen production/psychedelic influence gets overstated. It's certainly well produced though. Just a really good pop album for me with very strong songs from start to finish.
