Holy shit their albums are highly ranked here. I much much prefer this one to Lost in the Dream though. Nice memories connected to Thinking of a Place

Yeah, I definitely prefer this to Lost in the Dream--though, strangely, I prefer practically every other WoD record to LitD, but that's just me. A sweet, stunning collecting of songs.

One of the decade's best, just like Lost In The Dream, and that makes The War On Drugs probably my favourite act of the decade.
I still can't decide which album I like more, I feel you can clearly see some improvements and development here, songwriting seems a little stronger and guitar playing is absolutely phenomenal and much more original (guitar work on LitD while awesome at times felt a little too much like Mark Knopfler's). So many great songs it's hard to choose the best ones, I believe for many people Thinking of A Place is their crowning achievment.
On the other hand, there are two downsides here compared to the previous album. First and foremost, the production. It just feels a little to processed and mechanical, and the guitars have too much distortion and everything feels very loud. Lost in the Dream had this beautiful nostalgic hazy vibe that I feel is lost here, which is a shame since I felt that vibe was a big part of that sound. The other thing is singing, on Lost in the Dream Adam sounded like Bob Dylan which I really liked, but here he sounds too much like Bryan Adams at times.
All things considered, A Deeper Understanding probably edges it by just a tiny bit. _________________ All time
