Quite an interesting album and probably Dire Straits' most consistent. I've always has a particularly soft spot for Skateaway.

This album is truly fantastic. Everything that Mark Knopfler creates is worth listening to and this album is no exception.

My favorite Dire Straits album. Mark is an outstanding musician/composer. He's written some great Soundtracks as well.

One thing that is not so good about this album is the fact that each song is a little worse than the previous so it gradually deteriorates in quality (with the exception of Hand In Hand which I really like). When said like that you could think that it's not that great of an album, and I generally don't like it when albums have weak closing songs.
However, the flipside is that no other album even competes with this one when it comes to the 1-2 punch of the first two songs. Tunnel of Love and Romeo and Juliet are stone cold masterpieces and both among the best tracks of the 80's. Tunnel of Love is my favourite Dire Straits song and probably in my top 5-10 songs of all time, it's that good.
Skateaway and Hand In Hand are very good DS deep cuts, while the other 3 songs are all decent, even the goofy Les Boys has its charm.

I rank it as the 3rd best Dire Straits (behind Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms), and it sits in the 80-100 region of all time on my chart
