It's better than anything DeathCab released.

Look, I'm biased. I'm a huge Death Cab fan, and I fell into Give Up when I was 15--right in the sweet spot for someone to love this record. I still love this thing, and I still find new details and flourishes that affirm my belief that this is a groundbreaking gem, and one of those lightning-in-a-bottle albums of two artists at the height of their artistic powers--early 2000s Death Cab is the best Death Cab, and this is coming right off of Dntel's gorgeous and still-futuristic Life Is Full of Possibilities. You have song after song of crackling pop energy with some thrilling rhythmic experimentation. To this day, there's nothing that really sounds like Give Up. Even imitators good (like Freelance Whales) and bad (like Owl City) are unable to catch some of the basic textures and energy that makes The Postal Service such a special project. Anyway, can't promise you'll love it. But I think it's worth listening to at least once or twice.

Track picks
1. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
2. Such Great Heights
5. Recycled Air
6. Clark Gable
9. Brand New Colony

Never knew it was affiliated with Death Cab For Cutie. Yet I don't know ANYTHING about either bands/projects. But what a fucking coincidence since I listened to Transatlanticism (for the first time - due to babyBlueSedan's description and its ultimately beautiful cover) 2 DAYS AGO, and this comes up as AoTD?!??!

I'm currently listening while writing. So far, it's a cute typea mood, though electronic music is not my cup of tea - well, still miles better than Kid A haha. But not better than Transatlanticism (which I thought was boring in the first half, yet extraordinary in the second), musically nor lyrically.
