I really liked ELO when I was a young teen in the 70's. This was there last half decent album but nowhere near as good as A New World Record.

I still really like ELO.
This was their last great album (they still had a few half decent ones in them)
As good as this is, it's definitely not as good as ELOs only complete masterpiece, A New World Record.

I like them both about evenly now (New World Record and Out of the Blue). I guess I’d prefer to hear New World Record again, but mainly because I own Out of the Blue and over-played it. I did used to love the album though.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for not filling this up with how incredible the embarrassingly overrated album Time is. This is truly the best period of ELO...from Eldorado thru A New World Record, with Out Of The Blue being the last gasp of greatness before Lynne turned the band into a stringless trio that leaned way too heavily on synths.
ELO was at its best when it was truly about merging a rock band and an orchestra together. Out Of The Blue is the last gasp of that period...it's also the tail end of Lynne's songwriting mastery. _________________ May we all get to heaven

100% agree with this. The whole side 3 Concerto for a Rainy Day is essentially Jeff Lynne's swan song, but the whole album is a joy start to finish. _________________ 51 Washington, D.C. albums!

I wasn’t at all convinced by Time either- but it would be good to hear from someone who thinks otherwise. I don't rule out changing my opinion at least. I do really like some 80s onwards stuff that Jeff Lynne did. Though it’s more odd songs here and there than full albums.
