doesn't feel that long ago since Metropolis pt2 was aotd, now it's images and words.
I pretty much love this album just as much but for different reasons. Instead of telling a story, it's relying a lot on simply being a cohesive body of work of just musical integrity and intelligent symphonic metal, with time signatures refusing to go stale and songs that are urgent in the most epic way. Though I might prefer Metropolis pt2 to a slight degree, I still consider this one of my favorite metal albums I've heard, top ten. The album cover is kind of awkwardly put together though.
Three absolute favorites are Pull Me Under, Metropolis pt1, and Wait For Sleep, all are unreal.

This album totally blew me away in 1992, long after I thought being so amazed could ever happen again.
If anything, this album has grown in stature with me over the years. It NEVER gets old... it only gets better. There are days I even consider elevate it to my all time #1, above Rush's Moving Pictures.
Stunning, captivating, varied,.... powerful. Superlative in every way.

Given this album a bunch of spins over the years.
This has never been my favorite Dream Theater record though, I’ve always largely preferred the material from 99-05 and I think a lot of that has to do with the sound of this record. I don’t care much at all for the sound of Mike’s drums on Images & Words, the snare in particular.
With that said, it’s a pretty damn good album and most of tracks themselves here are pretty brilliant. I love Under A Glass Moon to pieces, great drum arrangement and that guitar solo…
