Rarely hear it these days. It's a classic for what it is and did, but I'm all for just half the songs (Shame, Chessboxin, CREAM, Method Man and PYN). Supreme Clientele and the Purple Tape not only have just as high highs, but are much more consistent in quality thoughout, like much more. _________________ My Top 100 :

As essential as it gets. One may argue that most of them would mature as writers and go on to present more sophisticated work, which is kinda true, but none of that is needed here. The key is the unmatched, raw energy that comes naturally when you have 9 unique rappers (yes, Masta Killa included) and each of them brings a different element to the table. They are young and ready to take the world by storm, as they are convinced they are the most badass blokes out there. Of course, the top-notch production doesn't hurt either, literally every beat is on point, not to mention the skits and the kung fu movie samples, which are simply the icing on the cake. _________________ Bob Dylan

A bloke drove past whilst I was washing the car the other week, windows down with c.r e.a.m. blasting. I promptly got the car finished asap to get the full album on and confirmed that it's still as great as it ever was. Front to back still incredible. Was talking with my pal the other day about this record and he thinks it's lost a lot of its potency. Still hits the same for me as it did when the same mate played it for me just after release. Pivotal at the time for helping put east coast back on track after Dre et al set the pace post golden age part 1. How is it even possible that they just happened to form a crew of that many great characters and MCs?
