Better than the original. And one of my favorite Beatles records, it's excellent. I like every track.

I'm personally of the belief that this is noticeably better than the original. I think Phil Spector's production is fine, but it takes songs that I think were intended to be pretty simple songs and makes them feel way bigger and more grandiose than necessary. Two prime examples: Across the Universe and The Long and Winding Road. I think the latter works with the production a bit better than the former, but both I think sound way better as just the simple songs they were recorded as.

Especially Across the Universe, which might be my favorite Beatles song (hard to pick just one tbh). The song feels like it was intended as this small, intimate thing, a sort of existential observation from John, but adding all the strings and everything just buries the simple beauty of the song

I’ll echo the previous comments insight by saying I like this mix better too. And I’m saying that after coming to enjoy the original album much more recently. This version of Across the Universe is the golden one.
