Haven't you been looking for that for years?
Haven't read it though
Maybe the library?

I have enjoyed reading The Beatles Anthology and U2 by U2. I want to read the RHCP one too. I like how these are in their own words and have interesting insight.

Unbelievably someone's taken the trouble of scanning EVERY SINGLE PAGE of Julian Cope's second best piece of work (after "Reward") and uploading it onto t'internet... see here...

For anyone interested in the early history of American indie rock, I recommend these:
1. Our Band Could be Your Life- Michael Azzerad
2. Route 666: On the Road to Nirvana- Gina Arnold
For punk, you have to read:
Please Kill Me- Legs McNeil
Others:
I'll agree with The Beatles Anthology and Shout. Also a Hard Day's Write and The Beatles Recording Sessions are interesting reference books too.
Cash- by Johnny Cash
I also agree on Billie Holiday's Autobio. I wrote a paper on her once, and that was my primary source.
I know there's got to be more. I've read tons of music books about music.
Has anyone read the Keith Richards autobio yet?
