Yeah, I know, I'm making too many useless threads, but this is one thing I was REALLY curious about.

(Note: The 1974 albums have been deleted from the list, since they are not generally considered to be anywhere near his best albums and Beefheart himself disowned them, and called them horrible and vulgar albums. And, oh yeah, they made the Magic Band quit. Shocked Nobody would have voted for them, anyway.)

Fun Fact: Beefheart's favorite album was "Lick My Decals Off, Baby".

I have both Safe as Milk and Mirror Man in my chart as #21 and #84. Though I've rated Safe as Milk higher, I voted for Mirror Man because I don't believe it will recieve many votes.

Mirror Man is a good one. I am confused between Trout Mask Replica and Doc at the Radar Station. Confused I think I should vote for Radar Station.

Trout Mask for me, but Strictly Personal is the Beefheart album I've been listening to most in the last 3 months. Also managed to track down a copy of ...Decals but haven't given it much of a spin yet...

Beefheart is for me the Holy Grail of music - it'll take you a long time to get it (unless your brain's been wired incorrectly), but when you do... pleasure abounds!

I don't really believe in "getting" music and all that, actually.........but I find it weird that so many people find it challenging. I mean, it isn't really, or maybe I've gotten too much used to experimental music or something, but still.....wait, does that mean my brain is wired incorrectly?

I guess it must do!

Maybe I should have been more specfiic as my above point is more directed towards Trout Mask Replica. I suppose that the point I'm trying to make is that, for the majority (even those with a broad taste in music), TMR is pretty hard to get your head round on the first listen - irregular time signatures, tracks that sound like babbling, and as for The Blimp...

The Blimp? What about The Blimp? *gets excited* It's one of my fave tracks off that album, along with Pena, Dachau Blues, The Dust Blows Forward 'N' the Dust Blows Back, and Moonlight on Vermont!

What are time signatures, anyway?
