It's really quite amazing what a proper coach can do for a "talent-limited" team. Only saw some of the second half yesterday, but this has been a clear trend now since he returned. If nothing else we look like a side that's gonna be hard to beat

Mandzukic, Rakitic, Subasic, Corluka have all retired, Perisic plays like he doesn't really care too much, Kovacic was never good in Croatia shirt (he's our version of "young and talented upcoming world class" 28 year old Lingard, not counting Lingard's the last few months with West Ham). We've got a bunch of solid youngsters, but as a full team we are really bad right now. It's not really surprising we've lost with the way we've been playing in the last year or so. What I'm really afraid is that even if all of the talented young players reach their potential, that's still a mid tier team. Dinamo goalkeeper Livakovic, CSKA number 10 Vlasic, Wolfsburg winger Brekalo and Dinamo right back Gvardiol are the potential new stars, Kramaric, Brozovic and Rebic are in their prime, but I don't think there'll be a standout player like Modric or Rakitic in the near future. Modric still plays well but he's not getting younger, and neither is the best CB pairing of all time Lovren and Vida. |
That's a lot of change alright, similar to ourselves (only our older lads are hanging around in the background rather than retiring...). Still plenty of quality in there by the looks of it, Dinamo going well in the Europa League must be nice also. I'd still fancy you to qualify overall, it's a interesting group and Russia and Slovakia don't look that convincing thus far, think everyone will take points off each other (well may be not so much Malta and Cyprus, but they can be tricky...).
We've got Luxembourg tomorrow which is a must win so I'm slightly nervous as they've improved quite a bit and are no longer the canon fodder of old, should win but I've a nagging doubt in the back of my mind... _________________

We didn’t have the attack to break them down and then they nabbed one late on from distance, good goal in fairness from Gerson Rodrigues, the only player on the pitch to play Champions League this year.
We’ve gotta just use this campaign to bed in youth now cause it’s a write off, but years of neglect and corruption have led us here, we produced legitimately incredible Gaelic footballers and rugby on a consistent basis whilst soccer is the dunce in the corner. _________________

So after playing 3 very disappointing games we're somehow first in the group. Thanks Cyprus and Slovakia I guess. Also next games are played in September, which is a huge gap. Weird 2 seasons. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart

Things really flipped in your favour really fast! Saw ye knock England out of the U21's also with that last minute goal, and at least you've got the Euros to look forward to, this is the first one we've failed to make since 2008 and now we get a friendly with Andorra instead (at least we might win a game, we drew with Qatar the other night meaning Kenny is still yet to win, our last win being a friendly against New Zealand two years ago...).
Our U21's did beat Wales in a friendly though, with a quality Welsh own goal where the defender knocked it back to the out of position keeper without looking first (our U21's are actually quite decent and probably should have qualified for the ongoing finals if it wasn't for all the changes however). _________________

Kick the lot of them out of their domestic leagues and Europe and let them piss off to their super league, hope UEFA and the league have some balls and actually stick it to them.
Looking forward to Leicester and West Ham's title challenge. _________________

It’s on FAs too, especially in England. After all they’re the ones who are approving club takeovers no matter who buys them, be it a shady Russian oligarch, state sponsored Abu Dhabi group or unscrupulous American businessmen who don’t even know the rules of football.
But I agree, the only language the owners understand is money. Ban them from every competition so they can’t profit off TV deals. Super League is destined to fail if every FA and UEFA/FIFA takes a stand. As soon as their pockets get lighter, they’ll give up. _________________ Finally updated the overall chart
