Ohhhhhhh yes. This album hooked me from the very beginning while also consistently getting better with each listen. The fuzzy effects on Bradford Cox's vocals give it a really great atmosphere. An example of an album and band that manage to have a retro sound while still making it their own.
While giving it a 9.2 rating and best new music stamp, Pitchfork's Marc Hogan writes:
"These four guys have created a seamless album of startling emotional clarity...Halcyon Digest's expanded instrumental palette-- acoustic guitar, electronic percussion, banjo, autoharp, harmonica, vocal harmonies, and saxophone (!)-- creates endless depths of intricacy and nuance to explore in headphones."
Deerhunter's made far better records than Halcyon Digest, IMO. If it were Cryptograms or Microcastle that were nominated, this would be easy for me. But alas, its HD that Lonerism's up against, and Lonerism wins it for me.
