I think Echo should have released a solo album. Unplugged, preferably.
Back on topic, though. I think Bobby Gillespie would be pish solo. I also think Amelia Fletcher (Talulah Gosh/Heavenly/Marine Research et al) belongs in front of a bunch of nameless guitarists with anoraks and could only ever be in a band.
This is of course by mentioning a 'frontWOman' I'm not straying off topic. I daren't start off another thread for fear of reprisals. _________________ 'Reggae' & t'ing

Julian Casablancas, obviously.
Billie Joe Armstrong is hardly the musician that either Tré or Mike are. He'd have the songwriting chops, but not the means of carrying out his vision.
Thurston Moore? Has he done any solo stuff? I can't imagine him, or even Kim Gordon (whose album dropped, though I've not heard) doing anything terribly impressive by themselves.
Also, I think that Paul Westerberg was much better suited with The Replacements than anything he did afterwards.
Robert Smith comes to mind as someone who hasn't done much outside of his main project, but nearly everything of The Cure revolves completely around him anyway. At any rate, I can't imagine him doing anything memorable or good.

Maybe not terribly impressive, but Thurston's done some pretty good soundtrack work. _________________ kill yr idols

There, I said it. |
Just because he's better with Radiohead doesn't mean his solo work is bad. The Eraser and Amok were both pleasing.

I'd actually really like to hear this one! I really like that voice, and I think a solo career could be good.
I jokingly said I want him to be in a band with Paul Banks, Tom Smith, and Harry McVeigh, but seriously, that would be incredible. I just love voices like that, those untrained baritones. _________________

I like his voice as well. I find it extremely compelling, but I think it rely's on the music itself to have the effect that it does, especially on tracks like Terrible Love and Mr.November where the music has such a buildup, that his voice is merely an instrument in the crescendo itself.

While I agree, any solo albums he does would probably have at least some instrumentation. I think he could get a similar effect while also conveying different feelings or styles. _________________
