Gram Parsons is a ubiquitous presence in my charts, at least for the short period in which he was a major influence on both country music and rock music. I feel he's the singular figure most responsible for bringing together the traditional elements of country with the rebellious, creative outlet that rock and roll provided. Parsons himself called his style "cosmic American music," and ultimately that feels about right. The Gilded Palace of Sin was the best thing Parsons did as part of the Flying Burrito Brothers, with the frequently covered "Sin City" the highlight. I'm still waiting to see a person wearing a green mohair suit to gain a full appreciation for the sort of person who'd dress that way. (Edited)
