Released during a period of time where Phish was *really* starting to flourish again as a live act, Paper Wheels is an astoundingly dull dud of a record. It's almost as though Trey wanted to say "And my solo stuff is good, too," except that it wasn't.
At no point is the album "bad," but it only rises above "forgettable" a couple of times. It seems as though Trey himself doesn't even think much of the album after almost a decade, as most of these songs haven't gotten any play in his solo live repertoire in years. Oh well. Get 'em next time, Big Red.
