Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 77.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 78.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.8.

Meticulously composed and beautifully arranged by a one-of-a-kind prodigy, this album is the definition of masterful and variegated pop music, enriched by Claire Boucher (Grimes)'s vast palate of genres and sounds and a perfectionist's work ethic in terms of production and lyrical content. The ultimate "weirdo" pop album of the last two decades, comparable to the works of Bjork in the 90s and of Kate Bush and Grace Jones in the 70s and 80s; add a "cyberpunk-kawaii-anime-pastel-goth-emo" aesthetic to the mix and there you have it, art pop at its finest! Great job, c!
Best: Laughing And Not Being Normal, Flesh Without Blood, Kill V. Maim, Realiti, Butterfly
Fav. Tracks: SCREAM (Feat. Aristophanes), Flesh Without Blood, Belly Of The Beat, Kill V. Maim, Life In The Vivid Dream.
Flesh Without Blood
Venus Fly (Feat. Janelle Monáe)

My introduction to Grimes, and what an introduction it was! The first track filled me with a sense of expectation, of curiosity. Then 'California' hits, with all its catchiness, incredible lyricism, and captiviating instrumentation. The Album remains consistently strong from there with only a few songs being less than perfect.
Favourite 3 tracks:
California, Artangels, REALiTi
Least favourite 3 tracks:
Laughing and not Being normal, Scream, World Princess pt II
Grimes is a big fan of Korean pop music, and it definitely shows on this album. These songs might be sung in English (except for "Scream"), but Art Angels still comes off sounding like k-pop on drugs.
I know that most people prefer Visions, but for me, this is definitely Grimes' magnum opus. She made a more accessible album, but she didn't compromise her vision nor her integrity in the process. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well the rest of the album holds up against "Flesh Without Blood" and "Kill V. Maim".
When she says her music is genreless I snicker smugly, but I sure have a hard time dissecting the songs to reveal the underlying genres; I’m sure they’re still there, but it’s just súch a megalomanic mix. If I am really inconsiderate I would throw this in the box with “synthpop” written on it. But every track is different; every song showcases a piece of her mind (literally and figuratively), revealing the diversity not so much of the woman being, but of the human being, since I’m sure she is smart enough not to label any of these pieces of mind of her “masculine” or “feminine”.
Her newfound love for catchiness is very welcome and doesn’t dumb anything down, but is rather an indication of direction. All in all it makes her the “Goldfrapp with ambition” I never knew I needed so much in my life.
Madonna under drugs. Hyper K-pop, this is accelerationism!
Waited many years for an interesting popmelodic album. Here it is!
it's surely better than Visions
