I've been listening to this album since it came out, but I have a version with Avant Gardner and History Eraser as songs 12/13, and I've always thought that's the only, "correct" version lol. Right now I've learnt that I'm wrong. Anyways while those two are certainly great, the whole album is excellent so the rating is applicable for any version of tracklisting. Such a beautiful voice, and incredible lyrics and songwriting.

A distillation of everything we like and fetishize about the classic alternative era (Nirvana, Beck, Pavement, you name it), [Sometimes I Sit and Think] is not merely the Great 90's Album that never was. Courtney Barnett's wit and wisdom, as well as a mean guitar which she plays herself, mind you, elevates this and her earlier double-EP to a more timeless level. Rock'n'Roll is still kicking, and has found a new torchbearer.

Very pleasant, unpretentious homely record. Obviously nothing special and revolutionary but it defends itself.

A relative newcomer with a couple of very good albums under her belt. Interesting musically but,the lyrics are what stands out. Depreston is inspired. I,can’t wait to see how this, artist develops over the coming years. Is she this generation’s Dylan? We will see.

Fantastic album. There's something intelligent, fresh, and ambitious here, while not too pretentious either.

In the months after this album was released, it was a staple at the coffee shop in Boulder, Colorado, where I went each day to work and sip soy lattes. Courtney Barnett has a knack for songwriting that is funny, punchy, clever, and perhaps most important, earnest. The song that really grabbed me and wouldn't let go was "An Illustration of Loneliness (Sleepless in New York)," which is a perfect ode to the feelings of alienation, crossed with the longing for connection, that define our modern age.
