Love her stream of consciousness lyrical style. All the songs sound fun on the surface but with an underlying serious message. The lyrics of Kim's Caravan are heartbreaking

Her accent coupled with her deadpan delivery is almost too good to be true. Add in the witty, one of a kind lyrics and dynamic guitars, and the result is my favorite album of the year so far. Very excited to see where her career goes (only up I'm sure).

The tunes vary from peppy little numbers and longer, slower, more methodical anthems, but in each case, Courtney's lyrics shine through as extremely unique and interesting. These superb lyrics provide the backbone for the classic rock songs that make up the album. It doesn't hurt that Barnett has a knack for catchy songs and solid riffs. Overall the record is ear candy with lots of food for thought. Definitely one of the best of the year

In the months after this album was released, it was a staple at the coffee shop in Boulder, Colorado, where I went each day to work and sip soy lattes. Courtney Barnett has a knack for songwriting that is funny, punchy, clever, and perhaps most important, earnest. The song that really grabbed me and wouldn't let go was "An Illustration of Loneliness (Sleepless in New York)," which is a perfect ode to the feelings of alienation, crossed with the longing for connection, that define our modern age.

Pretty disappointing honestly. It wasn't a bad album by any means, I was simply bored by it. The instrumentation just felt lazy with the same structure in every song. It all just sounded so copy and paste over and over again, it got to the point were I couldn't tell any of the songs apart. I did like Courtney's vocal delivery and lyrics however and I think it was what stopped me from disliking this album. I also quite enjoyed the song "Pedestrian at Best."
