Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.5/100, a mean average of 76.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

After seeing them live as a renewed version and renamed MC50 I was highly impressed. Plus I've read numerous articles citing this album as a major influence on many bands basically calling it one of the earliest heavy pre-punk albums. I had high expectations. But I must say I was a tad let down. Very raw feel to it with it being recorded live, there is an early punk element to it, but the overall song structures and sound come across as a heavy pub band with shit equipment. Quite disappointed as I expected better since this is touted with being an iconic rock album.
1st Punks
Frontloaded but effectively kicking the assess of Chicago audience.
live R and R with a touch of punk
I like all the songs very much pre punk music. But it is like The Stooges or The Who just a little bit different. The Track Starship is one of the kind i don´t like so much because of the squeak. But the rest is quite good.
Starts great, finishes somewhat weak. But man does this album have a lot of energy. Accurately reflects the ethos of the band (in both the glorious and the overwrought) and is an early template for punk music in both sound and attitude. The MC5 are not a band that I think of as an album band as they were created and functioned as a live band.
This platter is a nifty lil toe tapper
Really good raw album. First two songs are the best.
These guys are up there with the Stooges and the Who as the greatest proto-punk bands, it's a crime that this album isn't in the top 1000.
Gloriously self-indulgent.
