Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.2/100, a mean average of 76.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.4.

An interesting mirror's-image to the ultra-chill and heartbroken vibe of his previous record- this is more outward-looking, anecdotal and a major showcase for his rather ingenious wordplay- but it's still got that incredibly engaging late-night drive-through-the-city vibe that's been his constant throughout his career, even if this feels bigger and more immediate than everything he's done, hitherto. A french hip-hop masterpiece that (perhaps understably) remains completely under-the-rader in the mostly anglofied rap canon.

I just love this. It's a trip through time and history and stories of life and France. Amazing wordplay, lyricism and abilities all round. So much flexibility and experimentation. Combine this with cutting-edge production at the time makes for some really really smooth 90s beats. Absolutely iconic. MC Solaar is a talent unlike many others and you really need to respect him all the more simply for the complexity and difficulty of the French language itself.
