Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 78.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

A masterpiece from an artist gone before his time.

1 of the Best 2019 albums. Very original with c&w and pop sensibilities. Peaceful and kinda beautiful.

Very conservative music with a dark twist.
Beautiful record due to its combination of extreme honesty and gorgeous vocal arrangements.
Jarvis Tavernier is insightful guy and did a great job on this one.

Fantastic songwriting, good instrumentation and not-so-great vocals. The despair of this album is easily felt when you listen to the lyrics but I wish the vocals were close in quality to them. They just aren't very good. The actual words, though, I can't say enough about. Even without taking the writer's suicide into account, you can understand that this is a deeply troubled individual singing. I'm impressed with his ability to be so upfront about all the things going on in his mind and his ability to clearly and concisely convey those feelings. You can tell that Berman knew himself which I think is uncommon. "That's Just the Way That I Feel" is the most well-written song on the album, in my opinion.

David Berman's ultimate existentialist excersise. Deep mostly sad lyrics with delightful indie melodies. A memorable goodbye record, it's growing on me more and more.

I mean considering that Silver Jews were the first, you could maybe call Modest Mouse the David Berman of 2019, certainly not the other way round. But I personally don't see the connection. Maybe in the 90s, but that's debatable too.

The vocal is a little bit hypnotic. Overall a very listenable record. Really laid back.
