Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 25% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.6/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.7.

Jane Siberry is a one off artist. This is her best album. Often quirky but incredibly creative.

Although Jane Siberry (now Issa) has faded from my playlist, she had a great impact on me in the 1980's. Although No Borders and The Speckless Sky were heavily produced, there was still so much melody, lyrical content, and Jane's marvelous voice shining through. The Walking had some great material, too. I had the great fortune to see JS perform at the old 9:30 Club in Washington, DC during the tour for The Walking. I can honestly say that it was the best show I've ever seen. It was one of those rare marriages between excellent material, a tight band, a GOOD sound system not over-amped, (don't get me started about crappy sound and deaf sound technicians!)great musicians, and harmony vocalists who augmented JS's magnificent voice. What a night!
