Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 81.3/100, a mean average of 80.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

Holy moly this album is incredible. Where has it been all my life?! I need more Coltrane, clearly.

Easily one of the greatest jazz albums of all time. Mixes Coltrane's bop improvisation with classic showtunes and American standards in a way that's both nostalgic and innovative.

After the justly famous take on My Favorite Things and the gorgeous ballad that rounds out side 1, to my ears side 2 is even better, especially Summertime, which I could listen to on repeat. Not quite as good as Giant Steps or Blue Train, my two favorite albums of his, but almost.

I did not expect to fall in love with a jazz version of My Favorite Things, but here we are.

Sure Coltrane is good... but to think that this album of standards is better than A Love Supreme it's just not getting the point.
The take on "My Favorite Things" is beautiful, even though some parts of the last round of sax solos are redundant.
The take on "Summertime" is powerful... and naturally, the responsible for that is Elvin Jones. What a force of nature.

It's a strongly good album, but A Love Supreme is bigger than life.

What a strong band, man. One of the best jazz albums I've heard. Still like A Love Supreme a bit more, though this is a little more uplifting and lighthearted.

Unreal interplay.

Is that John Bonham playing on "Summertime"? No? Could've fooled me!

Man, is John Coltrane a genius. Better than A Love Supreme IMO.
