Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 65.5/100, a mean average of 64.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 64.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.8.

Whitney was, or at least for me, an artist who excelled on her singles, rather than the albums. That is why this album, which produced so many of her best singles is so good. Track A1 , never my own favourite, was the song that went to to Nº1 number 1 all over the world and helped establish her as a top act. Tracks A3, A4, A5 and B5 are four of my favourite ever Houston singles.
Her cover of I Know Him So Well is a long way from being my favourite version of the song, but the other tracks are good enough to complete a pretty worthy example of her musical output.
The marriage to Bobby Brown, the downward spiral of her life and work, and the tragic attempt to re-launch her career were all recorded, almost daily, in the pages of the musical press, so I will merely, as a fan of her music, stay with this and its predecessor Whitney Houston as a memorial to what was a very promising career as a very talented female pop-soul singer. Despite the tragedies, these two albums, and most, if not all, of those early singles were extremely popular, much loved, and really pretty good by almost any standards. She was really more of a pop, than a soul, singer, but she stamped herself in the memories of all of us who liked her records in the mid to late 80s, and we will ´always´remember her for that.

This one has the same problem that her first album does. The hits are great but the rest is just OK. There is still a lot to appreciate here, and I think this is a little better than the first album, but as an average score it's just alright.

Quantos clássicos em apenas um álbum. A consolidou como grande voz de sua época.

So Emotional and I Wanna Dance are worth listening to, tracks 3, 4 and 10, not too bad, the rest not so much.

I very much like Whitney's first 2 albums. She lost me after. 1987 I was listening to leppards hysteria, snakes 1987, heart bad animals and this.

Great voice, catchy tunes. Not a masterpiece - music for 80s night at the bar.

Another masterpiece from Whitney. My favorite tracks are "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", "Love is a Contact Sport" and "For the Love of You". What a wonderful voice she had!
