Probably the type of record I needed to get me into Xiu Xiu after not really warming to previous releases (I'd heard Girl With a Badket of Fruit and Oh No), Ignore Grief is less full on than some of their other work and more reliant on a cohesive atmosphere running through the tracks. Where vocals do appear they sound murky, as if being consumed by the sounds around them, it almost feels like you're listening to instrumentals when you're not (at least not always). There's a fullness to all of these tracks as well, it's got the loudness and discordance of truly chaotic music, but is too well ordered to become that. Since listening to this I've got more into some of the band's other works, this still stands out as a favourite though for its softer touch in evoking fear and despair.
