Favorite Song: This is Why

Hmm... I'm having trouble putting a finger on where this ranks among Paramore's albums, but I think I really enjoyed it. I really feel the band is going all out with instrumentation, making tight and catchy songs. I think the lyrics suffer slightly, but on other songs, they're excellent. I'm thinking a bit about Metric's last two albums and how Metric seemingly only got better lyrically while writing catchy songs. I'd love to see a halfway point between This is Why and Formentera.... Would that be Metric's Art of Doubt? I'm not sure. Because there's something here I don't think Metric has fully figured out yet. Similarly, I think Metric are better lyricists than Paramore. Sorry if that's a weird point of comparison. The two bands hold a similar spot in my mind, but admittedly, I'm more of a Metric fan.

Favorite Song: Coast to Coast

This is everything I wanted from this Delerium album. It feels like a modern pop album, but with experimental EDM and instrumentation mixed between tracks. I like how this album feels very forward-thinking and modern for Delerium, but some of the instrumentation reminds me a lot of their early stuff, something we haven't gotten from them in a long time.

Favorite Song: Silent Running

A bit of a mixed bag, but I'd say most songs hit really hard. I also love the selection of features... probably my favorite features list on any album ever.

Favorite Song: Welcome to My Island

I wasn't really familiar with Caroline Polachek before the lead-up to this album. I fell in love with Welcome to My Island immediately. It's such a strange new pop song with what felt like Kraftwerk influence. I was happy to see the rest of the album held up to the same consistency. I think this is the first pop album since Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia that excited me to explore it. I also want to say I really love the song that features Dido and Grimes. I'm a big fan of both artists, but they came from such different points of my life so hearing them on a song together was really fun.

Favorite Song: Night Crawling

I don't love this as much as Nookie Wood, but with how infrequently these albums release, I never get sick of hearing John Cale behind some modern production and familiar features. I gladly welcome this into his discography. I found the front of this album started slow. Many of these tracks feel like they could be slow burns. But I immediately loved much of a the back-half of this album. I'm excited to explore this more in depth.

Favorite Song: Insomnia

This is Parannoul fully realized. If you enjoy groups like My Bloody Valentine or Sigur Ros you'll likely enjoy this. I think Parannoul has similar appeal, but has definitely earned a spot among them.

Favorite Song: Married in Mount Airy

This was my first exposure to Nicole Dollanganger. I was really into it. I'm reminded of some of my favorite Grimes tracks off Art Angels, but with a slower and more haunting atmosphere. I'm hoping to dive into this artist further in the near future.

Favorite Song: The Ride

I'm mixed on this album, but leaning in the positive direction. Lil Yachty wears his influences on his sleeves here a little too much for my taste. I hear songs that remind me of Pink Floyd or Tame Impala and I find myself thinking of those bands. Kid Cudi isn't as varied as Lil Yachty here, but his sound always felt uniquely Kid Cudi. I love the ideas on this album. It's really consistent. But I wonder how often I'll come back to these tracks when Pink Floyd and Tame Impala already exist and I can get these same sounds from their albums.
