The real highlight of "My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross" is ANOHNI's vocal performance. She sings with such passion, packing every syllable with emotion. The opening track "It Must Change" is powerful with how the chorus is used to switch from empowerment to desperation to righteous anger. The instrumentals are well put together soul. They are not particularly eventful, but do a fantastic job supporting the vocals. It may have helped the album if they were given a flourish or moment to be the focus. Great performance, lovely record.
