Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.4/100, a mean average of 76.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.9/100. The standard deviation for this album is 9.2.

Missed them at the metro, but saw them in a great home show at Thalia Hall. From the first listen this was immediately a favorite of 2024.

Chicago's Friko have made a record that manages to capture the same adolescent fear of the adult world that Arcade Fire's debut did 20 years ago – tender and anxious and celebratory all at once.

“Where We've Been, Where We Go From Here” works because of its earnestness. The vocals are delivered softly and with genuine feeling. It elevates the lyrics from typical of the genre to a more personal place. It also connects well with both the minimalist and maximalist instrumental portions of the album. Instrumentally, Friko does a reasonable job but is indebted to other artists. The big build-ups of noisy guitar sound directly taken from Car Seat Headrest. A sweet premiere with room to grow.
Decent debut , hopefully more to come
Excellent debut, could use a bit of trim in a couple of songs but very excited for the future of this duo!
I found this album enjoyable. Some of the songwriting was fantastic, but also lacking in parts as well. I thought a lot of the noise rock parts fell short. Rough around the edges, but powerful as well. I see a lot of potential for this band.
This album has a nostalgic sound, very much in the indie style of the early 2000s, which reminds me of "Bluffer's Guide to the Flight Deck by Flotation Toy Warning" and at times "Funeral by Arcade Fire", only less melodic than the first and simpler than the second.
Overall, I think it's a good album although little or nothing spectacular.
This is a fantastic noise-pop album. I know it's not grounbraking, but music doesn't have to be groundbraking all the time. The melodies are beautiful, the somewhat heavy instrumentation and the smooth classical keyboards are awesome. Simply awesome musicianship in this debut. Too soon, I know, but this might end up being my AOY.
