It is now clear that Katie Crutchfield is one of the great talents of the decade. With a few listens Tigers Blood is, to my ears, a tour de force even compared with the great Saint Cloud.
"Tigers Blood" comes in awkward. The instrumentation can be very flat. The instruments will enter and stay in the same meandering form through the entire song. A noted exception being the quality of the banjo whenever it appears. The writing can also be self consuming. The feelings of self-confusion or desire to escape are brought up in the same way without new nuances. Despite all these glaring flaws, it really comes together at times. Crutchfield's melodies slowly and silently worm their way into your head. Suddenly, the dry lyrics break from recycled ideas into reinforced mantras. Far and away, the standout is "Right Back To It". Its earnest description of the embs and flows of a relationship is perfectly complimented by the male vocals on the hook. A slow burn in the truest sense.
Exceptionally pleasant singer / songwriter / folk rock record with shades of country and Americana. Isn’t quite as memorable as ‘Saint Cloud’ but solid nonetheless :)

There is some great lyricism on this album, but I think the musical structure is very subpar.
Solid album. She has talked about how she is challenging herself to write great music about ordinary, content, undramatic, life. I would say she is succeeding.
